Rosacea
Rosacea and Acne and are the two conditions that cause confusion among patients due their similar symptoms: redness on face with bumps and pimples. Both, are widespread and socially frustrating conditions. While not life-threatening, they can cause long-term physical and emotional scarring.
Eye dryness, grittiness, sand in your eye’s sensation, is often attributed by patients to allergies but might be a sign of ocular vision of rosacea. Ocular signs and symptoms may occur before skin on your face gets affected
Treatment of rosacea may require combination of systemic antibiotic with
topical medications.
Identification and avoidance of triggering factors is crucial in successful
management:
- Extreme temperatures, Wind
- Hot drinks, Caffeine
- Spicy foods, Alcohol
- UV exposure
- Photosensitizing chemicals in perfumes or cosmetics
Dilatated capillaries, present of very surface of rosacea affected skin, react negatively to ingredients of OTC topicals, including sunscreen, causing excessive burning sensation. Superficial broken capillaries are also responsible for that excessive reddish skin appearance.
Presence of red face especially nose is associated by others with excessive alcohol use and not with debilitating skin disease. Depression, frustration, social isolation is commonly described by patients. Our society obsessed with “picture perfect image” is sometimes very unforgiving.
TREATMENT OF ROSACEA REDNESS
Vascular lasers are great addition to pharmacologic rosacea therapy. Specific wavelengths of vascular lasers allow for selective absorption by oxyhemoglobin, leading to vessel reduction with minimal damage to surrounding tissue or scarring.
- Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL) (585 or 595 nm), Potassium-titanyl-phosphate laser (532 nm), Diode-pumped frequency-doubled laser (532 nm) are effective on superficial vessels.
- Deeper facial vessels, require longer wavelengths, long-pulsed Alexandrite laser (755 nm), or long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm).
Our Cynosure Cynergy MultiPlex, PDL-Nd:Yag 585/1046 laser is the most cutting edge vascular system out there. Not only combines 2 lasers in one with DuplexTM technology allows for combination of Nd:Yag operating simultaneously alongside the PDL allowing to penetrate deeper and provide even more effective treatment than a typical PDL system.
What we have been observing for over two decades, we are now able to back-up with a scientific study:
"Pulsed-dye laser found effective for erythematotelangiectatic rosacea*". We are proud to be able to offer this effective laser treatments for rosacea flashing, broken capillaries, or any other vascular imperfection on face. With advancements in laser technologies, news is even greater, as now it is possible to do treatments even on sun-tan skin. It is not an ideal situation, but gives patients more flexibility.
Rosacea is a chronic condition with periods of worsening and remissions, requires long-term therapy. With proper management symptoms of rosacea can be treated effectively.
Dr. Jozef Tryzno, MD. has long term experience in pharmacologic and laser
